The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends getting flu shots before the end of October. It takes about two weeks after your vaccination for the antibodies to develop in your body and provide protection against influenza virus infection. It is a good idea to get your shot early and not wait until you see the headlines discussing a flu outbreak. My wife and I try to get our shots soon after they are available each year to minimize the chance of getting sick if we are exposed to the flu. I am impressed with how easy it is to get vaccinated now. Nearly all pharmacies can take care of this for you. We were in and out quickly and barely felt the shot. There was a little muscle soreness the next day but nothing serious. The vaccination will not guarantee you will not get the flu but it should be much milder if you do.
